Earth Security took part in a panel of the Economist Insurance Summit 2016: Guardians of the Future. The summit focused on the disruptive forces shaping the future of the industry and delve into the growth opportunities arising from M&As and a closer alignment with the sustainable development agenda.

Earth Security's Senior Manager, Dr Margot Clarvis Hill presented the latest findings of our projects with the insurance sector and sustainable development. The panel included Thomas Bischoff, Munich Re’s Head of Group Development; and Mamiko Yokoi-Arai, Principal Administrator of OECD's Directorate for Financial and Enterprise Affairs.

Later this month, a meeting in Mumbai organised by Earth Security in cooperation with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will bring together Indian and international insurance companies to advance a greater role of insurers in India’s sustainable development goals.

Dr Clarvis drew on some of our project’s conclusions, providing examples for how new business opportunities for insurance companies can leverage sustainable development as a driver of market growth. Prior to Dr Clarvis’ panel, a presentation by Ole Lund Hansen (Chief, Business of Tomorrow, United Nations Global Compact) highlighted how do the UN and multilateral organisations are involving the insurance sector to work towards the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
