March 29, 2017
More than 200 companies and leading experts gathered in Montreux on 27 – 30 March 2017 to attend the Liaison Delegates Meeting organised by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The Liaison Delegates Meeting focused on critical issues for business in the areas of climate change, human rights, water, reporting and disclosure, and explored how to deliver and strengthen sustainability impact through business action and collaboration.
At the meeting, WBCSD launched the CEO Guide to the SDGs, a concise resource that identifies actions for business leaders to unlock the potential of the SDGs to drive business value by 2030. Earth Security’s CEO, Alejandro Litovsky was invited to speak at the launch of the guide as part of a panel discussion on Advancing the Conversation on the SDGs: Launch of the CEO Guide. He provided key insights on how companies can approach the SDGs as the new materiality framework for business that can drive growth and improve business resilience. He also highlighted the ways in which companies can respond to the SDGs as a ‘strategic’ priority rather than a ‘philanthropic’ initiative. Alejandro spoke alongside companies who are demonstrating leadership in SDG integration.
The panel:
- Shankar Venkateswaran, Chief Sustainability Officer, Tata Group;
- Alice Durand-Réville, Corporate Public Affairs Director, Danone Group;
- Alejandro Litovsky, CEO Earth Security;
- Andrea Valcalda, Head of Sustainability, Enel;
- Bérangère Magarinos-Ruchat, Vice President of Sustainability Partnerships, Firmenich SA.
The CEO Guide to the SDGs amplifies the key messages of the Business & Sustainable Development Commission’s flagship Better Business, Better World report by outlining an action agenda for business leadership. The foreword to the guide by the CEOs of Olam, Unilever, Yara and WBCSD states: “The SDGs provide us with a lens through which to translate global needs and ambitions into business solutions.”
